Grade Eight Physical Education Performance Exit Outcomes

As a result of their schooling, students will be able to:

  • Identify and participate in activities associated with the components of health-related fitness.
  • Regularly participate in physical activity for the purpose of sustaining or improving individual levels of health-related fitness.
  • Evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of a personal fitness profile.
  • Identify personal lifestyle opportunities and choices for regular participation in physical activities.
  • Demonstrate control when performing combinations and sequences of complex locomotor, non-locomotor and manipulative motor patterns in selected activities, games and sports
  • Apply strategies to the demands of increasingly complex game situations.
  • Transfer more advanced movement concepts from one skill to another (e.g overhand throw and overhand serve)
  • Apply rules and safety procedures in physical activities.
  • Participate in establishing procedures for group physical activities.
  • Remain on task independent of distraction (e.g. peer pressure, environmental stressors).
  • Work cooperatively with others to accomplish a set goal in both competitive and non-competitive situations.

Grade Seven Physical Education Performance Exit Outcomes

As a result of their schooling, students will be able to:

  • Identify the F.I.T.T. principles of training: frequency, intensity, time and type.
  • Regularly participate in physical activity for the purpose of sustaining or improving individual levels of health-related fitness.
  • Set realistic short-term and long-term goals for each health-related fitness component.
  • Identify opportunities within the community for regular participation in physical activities.
  • Demonstrate control when performing combinations and sequences of complex locomotor, non-locomotor and manipulative motor skills
  • Demonstrate complex strategies for selected activities, games and sports.
  • Compare and contrast efficient and inefficient movement patterns.
  • Apply rules and safety procedures in selected grade level physical activities.
  • Follow directions and decisions of responsible individuals (e.g. teachers, peer leaders)
  • Remain on task independent of distraction (e.g. peer pressure, environmental stressors).
  • Work cooperatively with others to accomplish a set goal in both competitive and non-competitive situations.
  • Work productively with peers of all ability levels.

Grade Six Physical Education Performance Exit Outcomes

As a result of their schooling, students will be able to:

  • Regularly participate in physical activity for the purpose of sustaining or improving individual levels of health-related fitness.
  • Monitor individual heart rate before, during and after physical activity with and without technology (e.g. heart rate monitors).
  • Identify components of cardiovascular fitness. Identify and apply rules and safety procedures in physical activities.
  • Set a personal health-related goal.
  • Demonstrate control when performing combinations and sequences of simple locomotor, non-locomotor and manipulative motor skills.
  • Demonstrate beginning strategies for selected activities, games and sports.
  • Recognize the general characteristics of movement that can be applied to specific settings (e.g. similarity of ready position in a variety of activities).
  • Identify offensive, defensive and cooperative strategies in selected activities and games.
  • Accept responsibility for their owns actions in group and individual physical activities.
  • Include concerns for safety in self-directed activities.
  • Make suggestions or modifications in a game or activity that can improve the game.
  • Recognize the role of games and other activities in getting to know and understand others of like and different backgrounds and abilities.
  • Seeks physical activity in informal settings that utilizes skills and knowledge gained in physical education classes.

  • Describe the benefits of maintaining a health-enhancing level of fitness.
  • Monitor individual Heart rate before, during and after physical activity.
  • Match assessments of fitness to corresponding components of fitness.
  • Demonstrate control when performing locomotor, non-locomotor and manipulative motor skills.
  • Understand beginning strategies for selected activities games and sports.
  • Identify and apply principles of practice and conditioning that enhance performance.
  • Identify and apply rules appropriate to the sport, game or activity being played.
  • Use identified procedures and safe practices during group physical activities.
