Grade Eight Physical Education Performance Exit Outcomes
As a result of their schooling, students will be able to:
- Identify and participate in activities associated with the components of health-related fitness.
- Regularly participate in physical activity for the purpose of sustaining or improving individual levels of health-related fitness.
- Evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of a personal fitness profile.
- Identify personal lifestyle opportunities and choices for regular participation in physical activities.
- Demonstrate control when performing combinations and sequences of complex locomotor, non-locomotor and manipulative motor patterns in selected activities, games and sports
- Apply strategies to the demands of increasingly complex game situations.
- Transfer more advanced movement concepts from one skill to another (e.g overhand throw and overhand serve)
- Apply rules and safety procedures in physical activities.
- Participate in establishing procedures for group physical activities.
- Remain on task independent of distraction (e.g. peer pressure, environmental stressors).

- Set realistic short-term and long-term goals for each health-related fitness component.
- Identify opportunities within the community for regular participation in physical activities.
- Demonstrate control when performing combinations and sequences of complex locomotor, non-locomotor and manipulative motor skills
- Demonstrate complex strategies for selected activities, games and sports.
- Compare and contrast efficient and inefficient movement patterns.
- Apply rules and safety procedures in selected grade level physical activities.
- Follow directions and decisions of responsible individuals (e.g. teachers, peer leaders)
- Remain on task independent of distraction (e.g. peer pressure, environmental stressors).

- Monitor individual heart rate before, during and after physical activity with and without technology (e.g. heart rate monitors).
- Identify components of cardiovascular fitness. Identify and apply rules and safety procedures in physical activities.
- Set a personal health-related goal.
- Demonstrate control when performing combinations and sequences of simple locomotor, non-locomotor and manipulative motor skills.
- Demonstrate beginning strategies for selected activities, games and sports.
- Recognize the general characteristics of movement that can be applied to specific settings (e.g. similarity of ready position in a variety of activities).
- Identify offensive, defensive and cooperative strategies in selected activities and games.
- Accept responsibility for their owns actions in group and individual physical activities.
- Include concerns for safety in self-directed activities.
- Make suggestions or modifications in a game or activity that can improve the game.
- Recognize the role of games and other activities in getting to know and understand others of like and different backgrounds and abilities.
