Pen, pencil, writing folder, spiral notebook for composition and literature notes, class novel and free-reading novel.
Vocabulary tests occur weekly.
Novels are assessed cumulatively.
Writing is given higher weight than vocabulary tests.

Students should come to class on-time, prepared to learn.
In Language Arts, students can expect about 30-45 minutes of homework every night. I also expect them to read at least 20 minutes a day from a free-choice novel.
This is my ninth year of teaching Eighth Grade Language Arts here at Pleasantdale and my 17th year of teaching experience. Prior to Pleasantdale, I taught Eighth Grade Language Arts for seven years in Winona, Minnesota.  Before that I worked in veterinary medicine for over twenty years in both small animal and mixed practices. I bring a passion for animal welfare and nature to enrich the language arts environment of my classroom. I received my undergraduate degree (BS-English) at Winona State University and my graduate degree in education at St. Mary’s University of Minnesota. I have coached soccer for the past seven years, have been the Middle School Language Arts Co-Ordinator for the past seven years, as well as the Eighth Grade Team Leader.
