This Month
We are now in the swing of things in seventh grade.
Literature - We are reading Red Kayak adn identifying foreshadowing throught the book. After that, we will explore short stories which will lead us in to reading a novel titled A Corner of the Universe. Through this novel we will explore differences between people and how that can effect relationships. After reading the novel, we will be using our Junior Great Books to read A Christmas Carol which will be followed by a field trip to see the play in Arlington Heights.
In composition we are setting up our vocabulary units. After unit 10, please be aware that there will be a ten unit test on all of the previous words. In addition, kids will be tested on the word stems from units 3-10.
Memoir is our main focus in writing and will continue through the better part of November. We will then be writing our own stories based on A Christmas Carol to finish out December.
Since each student should ALWAYS have a novel to read, I am including 2 book lists, the Rebecca Caudill and the Abraham Lincoln High School Book Award List, so that you will be able to look up descriptions of many great books. You do not need to choose a book from either of the lists. The lists are just to help you remember some great titles. Please find those lists under featured links.
