Welcome the Fifth Grade Spanish Web Page. This web page is brought to you by Señora Lasko and is your source for class information.
Fifth graders are wrapping up their sports and weather unit, in which they learned Spanish vocabulary for certain sports and weather situations and to express their likes and dislike for those sports and weather. They also learned about some sports that are popular in the Spanish-speaking world (soccer, Mexican rodeo, and bullfighting). The final unit of the year is the "family" unit. Students will learn to ask and answer questions about family members, including telling their ages. (Don't worry mom...we don't mind if they fib about your age!)

I graduated from Lincoln Christian College and the University of Illinois at Chicago in 1999 with two undergraduate degrees, one in Biblical Studies and one in Elementary Education with Middle School Endorsements in Spanish and Social Sciences. In my first four years of teaching I taught 7th grade Spanish, 7th and 8th grade Spanish and Language Arts, and self-contained 5th grade. I came to Pleasantdale in 2003 while pursuing my Master of Education degree through Olivet Nazarene University.
My first exposure to Spanish was my freshman year of high school, when I fell in love with the idea of being able to communicate in second language. I believe language skills are critical to the success of people in all occupations, and those who can speak more than one language are at a definite advantage in our global marketplace. I think it’s wonderful that Pleasantdale provides the opportunity for our students to learn Spanish starting in kindergarten, and I am pleased to be a part of that process. I enjoy working with the students and seeing their language skills develop throughout the year.
My husband, Victor, and I have been married for 16 years and have one adopted son (Drew, who is 22 and lives on his own now) and one daughter (Emma, who was born in August, 2011). We are active in small groups and children’s ministries in our church. In my free time I love to read, watch movies, play board games and cards, and visit with friends. I enjoy traveling, volleyball, taking walks, and playing with our two dogs, Chip and Sadie.
Mastery Statements tell what students are expected to know and be able to do for each subject area at each grade level.
