District 107 Announces New Principal at Pleasantdale Middle School
Griffin Sonntag, principal of Clarendon Hills Middle School in Clarendon Hills, will join Pleasantdale School District 107’s administrative team as the new principal of Pleasantdale Middle School in Burr Ridge. Sonntag’s appointment was approved at the June 21 Board of Education meeting and he will begin his new role July 1. Sonntag was selected from over 40 candidates who applied for the position and will be taking the reins following Principal John Glimco’s retirement on June 30. Superintendent Dave Palzet believes Sonntag’s background in facilitating a vision of learning alongside promoting a positive school culture and strong school management skills will be a great asset to the school community.
“We are excited to welcome Mr. Sonntag to our Pleasantdale family and look forward to him continuing the success we have experienced in our district,” said Palzet. “Griffin has a proven track record of effective school leadership and we are confident that he will move our middle school from great to greater. Speaking personally, I am excited to work with and learn from Griffin as he takes over the helm at Pleasantdale Middle School.”

In this role, Sonntag has served on a variety of district committees implementing the district’s strategic plan, completed the visioning process for the middle school, developed a staff center to assist with improving building climate and staff morale, co-led the implementation of a variety of best practices, scheduled and facilitated school-wide testing, oversaw student behavior management operations, served as the conference president of the West Suburban Middle School Athletic Conference, worked with the Parent Teacher Organization to enhance and support student programs and participated in Community Engagement evenings to target community input on key initiatives.
Sonntag began his foray into administration in 2004 as an assistant principal intern and curriculum intern at Hubble Middle School and Johnson Elementary School in Warrenville. He launched his teaching career in 2000 at Community Unit School District 200 in Wheaton as a seventh grade science teacher. Sonntag also taught seventh grade math and eighth grade science.
A graduate of Wheaton College with a bachelor's degree in elementary education, Sonntag also holds a master’s degree in educational leadership and administration from North Central College as well as a Superintendent Endorsement from Roosevelt University.
