¡Bienvenidos!
(Welcome!)
¡Hola! My name is Maureen McPherson and in case you are wondering, Pleasantdale did not get a new Spanish teacher. On June 18th I got married and traded in my Irish maiden name (McGonigle) for my Scottish married name (McPherson).
Mrs. McPherson's Background:
I received my B.A. in Spanish Education from Augustana College with a minor in Latin American Studies. I studied abroad in Cuenca, Ecuador and have visited over 10 countries. I taught Spanish in Zion, IL for two years and I am now in my second year at Pleasantdale. I am currently enrolled in a graduate program at the University of Illinois at Chicago part-time, where I am working on obtaining a Master of Arts in the Teaching of Spanish. Each Friday I post links to my weekly news (noticias) so you can find out what your son or daughter is doing in class.
If you have any questions or concerns I would love to hear from you. My email is mmcpherson@d107.org and my phone number is 708-246-2792.

Our District's Spanish Philosophy Statement
Spanish is the study of communication and cultures through listening, speaking, reading and writing. Students will attain the listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills to actively participate in culturally diverse communities. We teach Spanish through:
- early, continuous, child-centered activities.
- interactive, communicative scenarios.
- authentic assessments pertaining to real-ife situations.
- a spiraling scope and sequence of the language skills and concepts.
