Pleasantdale Elementary School Library
My name is Maggie Smith. I have been the library information specialist at Pleasantdale Elementary School since 2006. I graduated from Loyola University Chicago with a BSEd in Elementary Education and a MEd in Curriculum and Instruction. I earned my Library Endorsement from Chicago State University. Prior to District #107, I taught at St. James School in Chicago and at Ogden School in LaGrange. I often tell the students that I have the best job in the whole school because I get to be with children and books all day.
Books, to the reading child, are so much more than books – they are dreams and knowledge, they are the future, and the past.
~ Esther Meynell
The Library serves about 480 students in grades pre-kindergarten through 4th and more than 50 staff members. Holdings include books, reference materials, computer software, magazines and DVDs – over 15,000 items. The Library is staffed with a library information specialist, Ms. Smith and approximately thirty parent volunteers who are on a rotating schedule. They assist with day-to-day operations. During the past school year, more than 23,300 items were circulated.
